C36 - Dravite Grey Tricoat

The Look

Dravite Grey is a shape-shifter. It isn't a boring office-park grey. One minute it looks like a flat, stealthy battleship grey on an M8 or a 7 Series. Then the sun hits. The paint explodes with a deep, golden shimmer. It's moody. It's expensive. It is the current darling of the BMW Individual palette. If you drive a 3 Series or an 8 Series in this shade, you know the secret. It's two colors in one.

Technical Details

This is a complex pearl-metallic finish. Those bronze and gold flakes create the glow. Because of the high metallic content, application is tricky. If you apply it too heavy in one spot, the particles clump together. This creates dark splotches or "mottling." It is a depth-heavy finish. In the shade, it looks like a solid dark grey. In the light, the pearl takes over. You need thin, even layers to keep the sparkle consistent across the repair.

Best Practices

Look for your paint code on the driver-side door jamb or under the hood near the strut tower. Before you spray or dab BMW Dravite Grey Tricoat (check for code C36), you need to shake it for 60 seconds. Hard. Those heavy metallic flakes sink to the bottom of the container. Test the color on the included card first. When applying, keep the container moving to prevent the pearl from pooling. Wait for the drying time between thin coats. If you are using a pen, do not glob the paint. Build the color up slowly. This finish thrives on thin, repeated layers.

The Color ID Tag is typically a sticker or plate; on some models and years it may be under the hood, sometimes at the back of the engine compartment near the firewall. BMW Color Codes are usually 3 digits, but can also appear as A52 or an older format like 354/7; common examples include 300, 475, A52, or 354/7.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can.
