I recently spray can painted a fender, which on the final coat with 1/2 of the can left, I ended up with some darker areas.  I shook the can for at leas t 2-3 mins. before painting and during painting shook it often. Just wondering whether the darker areas are my spraying technique or was just the bottom of the can coming out darker?  I haven't sprayed the clear coat yet as I am not sure whether this darker areas will show through.  Do I need to sand this final coat down and get another can and apply a better final coat?  Color match was very good!

Sounds like you have a metallic paint and the trick here is to hold the can about a foot away on the final coat and move very rapidly to even out the metallic flake. Even professional paint shops have this problem sometimes.

Thank you for the reply! That was pretty much the cause of the of the shading problem, in addition to my not putting on a heavy enough final coat.  I bought another can of spray paint and used it all for a final coat on the fender, held it back a bit more, and concentrated on putting on a heavier coat.  Must admit, color match was perfect and my spray can fender job came out damn near perfect as well.  With the fender on, cannot spot a difference from the rest of the factory paint.
