Basecoat went on great! Put on two coats of clearcoat in a similar manner, waited 7 days and used your rubbing compound. Found I was taking off the green basecoat and concluded that I had not put on enought clearcoat. Sanded with 1000 grit, resprayed the basecoat, and put on two good coats of clearcoat the following day. The paint job was a lot shiner than my first attempt. Three days later I again used the rubbing compound. No green on my cloth this time, but after working the area, it went to what I would consider an unsatisfactory shine to dull. What am I doing wrong?

What type of rubbing compound are you using? (Medium or Heavy Duty?) What are you applying it with?

Usually when we receive these emails, we find out the customer is not using the correct rubbing compound and is using something other than a old, clean cotton T-shirt to apply it. Let me know.

That's the problem. As I said, I am using your rubbing compound and an old 100% cotton t-shirt.

Could there be any grit in your T-Shirt? Even a small amount will make the finish dull. Also, what type of pressure are you using. If you let the clearcoat dry too long and if you are in a warm area, it can take more pressure to make the clearcoat shine.

Are you familiar with polishing compound? This will also make the clearcoat  shine better, especially if it was dulled by small gritty pieces.

We use this clearcoat and rubbing compound all the time, so it defintely works but sounds like something is not quite right here.

Thought I would bring everyone up to speed. Dissatisfied with the shine, I waited until the following weekend and used the rubbing compound very aggressively. Sure enough, the shine came through! After waiting 30 days, I used polish and wax applied with a random orbital buffer. Results couldn't be better!!! NO ONE including my wife or myself can tell where the bumper was painted. Thanks for your great products and your help!
