Hello there, I have a question and hopefully can get an answer before placing an order for the spray paint.

I have a 2004 Rav 4, and I have recently purchased a hard spare tire cover which was made up of a stainless steel ring and a face plate. The company that I ordered from did a great job with the hard spare tire cover and the face plate was painted exactly the color of my car. In fact this is how I got your website, it was referred by the company who made my spare tire cover.

Anyways, to make the long story short, I have somehow screwed up the nice paint job by spraying a coating of what I thought was a proctective coating on the face plate, and now because the spray was uneven, I have lost the shiny and the glossy look on the face plate, and I have got patches of spray all over the face plate, which looks awlful under the sunlight.

Now my question is, is there any way to fix this mess? If not, what procedure should I take to repaint the face plate myself? Do I just have to purchase the base paint and the clear coat only? and can I just spray the new paint over the existing paint?(the face plate is made out of plastic).

I am really upset at myself with the mess that I have made on the face plate. Please kindly provide a solution for my problem.

Try using some automotive lacquer thinner and see if the coating washes off. Try a very small test spot and see what happens as it might also take off the original finish if it was painted recently. The only other way is to actually sand off the offending coating and start over again.
