I have a 1997 Mazda Protege LX. The paint on the roof started to fade a while ago, and now well, its very noticeable. What worries me is that the hood paint is starting to fade too. The car is almost ten years old and i dont feel like spending a whole lot of money on the paint, thats when i saw paintscratch website and saw the base and clear coat spray cans.

My question to the forum is, is it ok for me to just spray a new base and clear coat on the car? what to do to keep the hood from fading as well? here i include the pictures as well.. If i can do this my self, what are the steps to take?... What sand paper to use? etc etc

I think the clear coat is the one dissapearing, but i have no clue, you can see in the middle of the whiteish stains the paint but its not shiny.

I really want my car to look kinda decent, i mean engine is still good and everything.

The clearcoat is coming off. This is caused by poor adhesion to the basecoat and/or primer. To fix this right you will need to sand down to the primer at least. Then you need to spray primer, basecoat, and clearcoat from scratch. Please see:
