My 91 Dodge has what appear to be a bunch of pits in the existing clearcoat on the hood and front fenders.  What is the best way to fix this?  I have thought about wetsanding the clearcoat smooth, but I do not know how much clear I have to work with and I don't want to go through it.  Another thought I had was spraying some more clear, and then wetsanding it smooth, but I am concerned about adhesion of the new clear to the existing clear.  Rubbing compound doesn't seem to cut it (using a PC 7247 DA Polisher).  Haven't tried a rotary since I don't on one.  Any suggestions are welcome.

Clearcoat problems are usually indicative of underlying paint problems. Most likely you need to sand down the basecoat, repaint, and reapply the clearcoat.
