Hi,

I am repairing some small scratches on the door edge of my vehicle but am concerned about using the rubbing compound - will it also remove some of the existing paint since it is described as "liquid sandpaper"?  I don't want to burn through the exisitng paint.

You would really have to use a power buffer to go through the existing paint. The rubbing compound will take off any paint that has oxidized, making the underlying paint shine even more. You want to wax it to prevent it from re-oxidizing, but wait 30 days if you have also applied fresh paint.
