Hi
I am doing a temporary fix (until I decide on a permanent fix) on some knife cuts in my paint. The cuts are so fine that there is no way to get any paint in them. They are actually only visible in the shade when they appear black - in the sun they appear white and the metallic paint hides them. I think the person who damaged the paint tried to buff the cuts out because when I tested an area with a spot of compound you could see the grey metallic colour on the cloth (needless to say this was only a test and I stopped straight away). So, as a temporary fix I have spent the last day laying several coats of clear with a Paintscratch.com clearcoat pen - just to protect it. It worked great actually - the flat tip moulded around the bonnet lip after a couple of runs and gave a nice even coverage. So now I have a reasonably thick coverage of clear I was wondering;

- how long to wait before wax? I have read that it should be "dry" - but how long after dry? 24h? 48h?
- would it have been worth running along the edge with a metallic silver paint pen? Seeing it went on so smooth and easy, maybe this would stop the cuts appearing black in the shade? Can this still be done or won't it work over the clear? Or would I have to strip the clear? Or would it just draw attention to already difficult to see damage?

Thanks!

I was also going to avoid the medium cut compound too based on above and just use some Meguiars ScratchX - the clearcoat is nice and smooth so I don't think it will matter...

Wait 30 days to wax.
You can try the paint pen as it should improve the look.
Not sure what you mean by not working over the clear?

I just meant is it OK to use the colour paint pen over the clear I have already put down or should I have done this first?

I would use a automotive lacquer thinner and take off the clear first if you have applied it in the last 30 days. If it has been more than 30 days, just sand it lightly and then paint over it.
