Okay I'm getting mixed answers on exactly how to re-paint my plastic bumper on my 1998 Nissan Maxima. Some say you need a special rubberized primer and the flex added to the clear coat, others say no special additives if air dried. I have a bumper with paint peeling off, seems previous person did not prep or paint correctly. Where can I find a step by step process for stripping and repainting my bumper correctly so it will last for several year with out flaking off?
Thanks, Bill |

Okay, I finally painted my rear bumper this weekend. All went well other than it is quite a bit darker than the original, but I guess I can live with it, looks much better than before.
Question: For the last step “Polishing Compound” when do I do this? It says wait 30 days to wax, so I was nervous to do this right away. As its hard to get a wet clear coat out of a can I have some semi rough areas I hope the polish will shine up, thanks.

You need to use rubbing compound on the clearcoat when it is dry. Polishing compound can be used AFTER the rubbing compound it you wish, but it is too fine to shine the clearcoat first. |
