"color sanding" is a left-over term from single stage paints (alkyd enamels for example when you were sanding directly on the color coat.
Color sanding can be wet or dry.    Today the term just means the sanding out of defects, since you're working on the clear coat, almost never the base "color" coat.  I've even heard old body men call machine buffing "color sanding".

sounds good to me, though I only think in terms of wetsanding and dry sanding.
